I love this definition of "place writing" and guess I find myself in good company here. Changing the way I think about the place where my great-grandparents homesteaded through the eyes of the great-grandchildren whose Ojibway relatives lived there on Lake of the Woods on the US-Canada border. The Northwest Angle is the "place" I'm writing about.

Thank you for taking the time to comment, Jill. There is a strong affinity between people and place and I look forward to following your story-telling.

Thanks for the recommendation, Yasmin. I will take a look at this on Netflix. I am a student training to be a psychotherapist/counsellor but the more I learn about mental health and the problems that people are suffering the more I look further out beyond the individual. Places, circumstances, environment, nutrition. It's complex but I hope to learn some lessons from the blue zones. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Richard. I think the blue zones research will definitely add interest to your fact-finding mission. Good luck with your training - this is such an important field of work.

I watched this in one go last week, when I was poorly in bed. It was wonderful and so many interesting insights that came out of it.

Yes, I watched the episodes in one go as well. Amazing to think that the criteria for longevity can be replicated. I think it would be wonderful to spend time in one of these places and write about it.

Absolutely! I think Sardinia would be my first choice but all of them look like fascinating and wonderful places to go.

I have heard about this documentary, it sounds so fascinating and look forward to watching it. I love what you say about place writing as a way of understanding how we/others live in a place rather than passing through it and after evaluating it, it is about bringing a new personal perspective.

Thank you for your comment, Lyndsay. I think you'll find the documentary interesting. I was completely enthralled. I think it's true to say that if we write about a place we have to see it from multiple perspectives and, importantly, make up our own minds about it.
