I learned something today. I had never heard of Place Writing until here on Substack. What I learned is that I write my poetry from photos I have taken in Nature Places, then use them as my prompts. I love going to art galleries! I am going to try this Place Writing soon.

I'm so pleased to have introduced you to Place Writing, Dena. I think writing about a location from art (photos included) is a lovely way to develop the wider skills of a place writer. I guess, next time you draft some poetry, let yourself approach the subject from a variety of angles, then dig deep, then bring them all together.

Thanks, Sonja. I'm delighted you're here and I've just read your post about the painting 'Interior Light' by Carl Holsøe. I didn't know this artist and I love the example you show us. For me, 'place' is about interiors just as much as it is about exteriors, and 'place writing' can cover the real and the portrayed. I look forward to chatting with you more!

The Hearth 2 image is so vibrant with its realism of an ordinary kitchen sink. I can smell it as much as taste it.

It's an amazing image, Jill, evoking many emotions in me and certainly sparking the senses. I could have written a much longer piece about this photograph but decided to keep it short for Substack readers as this length of post seems to work well.

Visiting a gallery is a cool and creative writing prompt. I'm happy you didn't post a photo in this space - the lack of a visual strengthened your writing...

Thank you, Jack. I love going to galleries.

And I'm interested to know your thoughts about the visual so I appreciate your comment.
